Ears and Sinuses
2 weeks ago, MG had her 5th set of tubes put in and had her sinuses irrigated. I was a nervous wreck about the sinus surgery, but it all went well and recovery wasn't bad at all. She did great that day. She was scared and melted down a couple times while we waited, but I can't blame her! We went to Build A Bear the night before and got her a friend to help her feel brave. She chose a kitty princess with an obnoxious "meow" soundbox!
The worst part of it all was when they took her back to the OR. We had to wait so long in pre-op that the heaviest effects of her "princess juice" had worn off. They carried her away (thankful for nurses who were willing to carry a 46 lb 5 year old!) screaming and crying. Broke my heart!
She came back from the procedure in a full-blown meltdown. She never comes out of anesthesia very easily. She calmed down a lot once I crawled on the bed with her and held her.
Recovery at home was easy. She slept most of the day and woke up feeling fine. Her nose was sore and stuffy for a week or so, but other than that, you wouldn't know she'd been through anything.
She made it 2 weeks before she developed a fever, cough and cold-like symptoms! Lucky us! We had her 2 week follow up with the ENT the day she woke up sick, though, so that was lucky! She said it was a virus and to let it run it's course while treating the symptoms. Her ears were bone dry and the tubes were in place. Her nose and throat looked great, as well. Good news! Yay!
